CE for Private Investigators is provided in two courses: CE – Investigations and Company Representative & Individual License Holder CE. The first course focuses on matters directly related to investigations. The second course provides complete review of the Act and Administrative Rules, Laws and Ethics as required.

As you study a particular topic, when you have completed each section simply MARK COMPLETE the topic or lesson and proceed. The final exam will be available 48 hours after your initial enrollment. The Certificate of Completion will be presented and posted to your account upon completion of the final exam.


This course is configured as follows:

  • 4 hrs – Company Representative & Individual License Holder CE (Ethics and Act)
  • 8 hrs – Lesson 1 for all licensed Private Investigators
  • 6 hrs – Lesson 2 for all licensed Private Investigators with less than 15 years continuous licensing after completing Lesson 1

Continuing Education

Welcome! Fred and Henry have assembled a variety of documents, presentations and videos for you to use in continuing education and knowledge sharing throughout the year. They have assembled over 100 hours of content and continue to add more content each month. The Act requires that you complete a minimum number of required hours of continuing education in topics related to you field of expertise. This course is self-study and free-navigation in form. You may spend your time accordingly on any of the topics provided. However, regarding ethics and study time of the Act, particular minimum time allocation is required. Also, you may return to the course anytime during the year to make learning a continuous activity.


(a) An application to renew an individual license may not be submitted until the required minimum hours of department approved continuing education credits have been earned in accordance with the Act and this chapter. Proof of the required continuing education must be maintained by the employer and contained in the employee’s personnel file. All individual licensees shall indicate they have completed the required minimum hours of department approved continuing education credits on their application for renewal.

(d) Private investigators with more than fifteen (15) years of continued licensure as a private investigator shall complete a total of twelve (12) hours of continuing education, eight (8) hours of which must relate to investigations, two (2) hours of which must cover ethics, and two (2) hours of which must involve the review of the Act and the rules of this chapter.

(e) Private investigators with less than fifteen (15) years of continued licensure as a private investigator shall complete a total of eighteen (18) hours of continuing education, fourteen (14) of which must relate to investigations, two (2) hours of which must cover ethics, and two (2) hours of which must involve the review of the Act and the rules of this chapter.

All continuing education credits must be earned through department approved continuing education schools. Additionally, licensed companies with ten (10) or more licensed employees may make a written request for a letter of exemption allowing them to provide continuing education to those employees.
